Cultural Institute

The Straz Center’s Cultural Institute is an initiative that focuses on celebrating the rich culture, history and arts that make up the surrounding Tampa Bay community. Through performances, workshops and community dialogue, the Cultural Institute seeks to preserve the impact that arts has had on our community and to create art that reflects the rich diversity that is Tampa Bay. 

We strive to engage with our community; working with them to create art that preserves musical genres and showcases diverse art forms; by starting conversations to address social justice to see how we can bring healing through the arts and, if we can’t bring healing, we can bring awareness to and amplify the voices of those who have not been heard.

    Arts Legacy REMIX

    Arts Legacy REMIX is a grass roots, ground-up undertaking that demonstrates how The Straz continues to discover new and innovative ways to create and present art that is entertaining, accessible, empowering and inspiring.

    Voices of the Community

    The Straz Center’s Voices of the Community virtual town halls provide a safe space for sharing stories and experiences, cultivating relationships and highlighting topics or pieces of art created by or about Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color (BIPOC) or groups.

    Straz Jazz Project

    The Straz Jazz Project is an expansion of our community engagement music programming and focuses on the traditions and history of jazz notably the techniques and sounds that make jazz a uniquely American art form. 

  • The Straz Center’s BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) Play-Reading Series is an integral part of the organization’s efforts to be more inclusive and to diversify its artistic offerings. This, in turn, is part of the overall commitment to diversity and inclusivity in all areas of The Straz.
